Having practiced and taught yoga during both of her pregnancies, Ann-Marie is not only qualified in pre and post natal yoga but experienced too.

“During both pregnancies I would often feel very nauseous and uncomfortable but the minute I started teaching or practicing yoga I immediately felt relief.  The postures helped to maintain my alignment, posture, strength and stamina and in the later stages of pregnancy helped me to relieve my restless legs and fluid retention.  During labour I found the breathing and meditation techniques a wonderful tool to stay calm and focused and to help me cope with the pain.  After pregnancy yoga practice strengthened and toned my abdominal muscles and pelvic floor and helped me to cope with the demand of sleepless nights.  I have found that practising yoga again has given me some much needed me time and has toned my body, relieved my back pain, improved my posture, strength and flexibility and helped me to lose 32 pounds of the weight I had gained during pregnancy”.

Being pregnant is one of the most challenging, exciting and life-changing time's in a women's life and you often feel like you are on an emotional roller-coaster.  As your posture adapts to the growing uterus, your posture will change and lower back pain may occur.  Muscles can feel fatigued due to the extra weight gain and digestion becomes sluggish often causing constipation.  As the blood chemistry changes you can experience oedema, (fluid retention), making your feet and legs feel very restless and stiff.  As well as morning sickness, sleepless nights, tender breasts, shortness of breath and heart burn to contend with, it is a very challenging time.  Some ladies experience no problems during pregnancy whilst others can feel dreadful at times.

Yoga practice during pregnancy is very beneficial to reduce stress, control your mood swings, balance and calm your mind and enhance a healthy sleep pattern.  The gentle postures help to relieve fluid retention, improve circulation, flexibility, stamina, strength and help to open the pelvis to prepare for labour.  The breathing techniques are a wonderful aid to ease labour pain and encourage you to focus your mind.

Post-natal yoga


Life for a new mum is extremely hectic, sleep patterns are interrupted, hormone’s are all out of balance, no time to yourself and a new body shape to contend with, it’s no wonder a new mum can feel like they are on an emotional roller coaster, again.  It is a time of joy, extreme happiness, elation, exhaustion and tears.

Yoga practice is very beneficial after pregnancy helping a new mum to gain strength and stamina, release built up tension and also giving mum some much needed ‘me’ time.  The postures will help to re-align your posture, relieve back pain and strengthen your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles.  Breathing and relaxation techniques alleviate feelings of stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia.

"15 months ago I was diagnosed with post natal depression and I honestly felt like my life would never be the same again. I had a beautiful daughter who I adored but my self confidence and general coping mechanisms came crashing down around me. I was rapidly commenced on anti-depressant therapy and attended counselling weekly. Slowly I started to cope better but taking the medication made me feel sluggish and fatigued and the counselling helped but was only funded for a short period of time.

Having previously attended yoga and with encouragement from a close friend I started to attend Amiyoga every week in the hope that it may help me overcome my mental health problems.

After my first session at Amiyoga i was hooked! Ann Marie is motivating, inspirational and uses her passion and belief in yoga to guide you through the practice! Yoga no longer felt like something just to keep me fit, it became a tool to find true balance within myself.

Even after that first session I honestly noticed changes in my mental health. I was less anxious, slept more soundly and woke feeling more refreshed and rejuvenated. Such benefits continued and my mind felt like it was becoming my own again. Friends and family also noted such changes seeing my self confidence grow, my energy levels rise and my usual happy self returning.

Now only 5 months after my first session I am free of medication and feel like I am getting my life back on track. I have two beautiful children who I cherish and savour every moment with. Depression really affected my memory but I feel Amiyoga has helped reconnect me with my mind allowing me to treasure every moment and store it safely.

I believe that Amiyoga has hugely contributed to my recovery and I feel that it is now part of me. I cannot thank Ann Marie enough for teaching me new ways to engage with my body and mind, thus regaining control in the physical, psychological and emotional sense."
